Gilmore Girls Week - Day 1 - Gilmore Playlist

Hi, Everyone!

AHHHH!! in about six days Gilmore Girls is coming back and I am really excited. I wanted to do something in celebration of the show returning by counting down the upcoming days with themed blog posts. I am trying to blog more as I haven't been posting regularly here so this is me getting back into the blogging world.

I have my coffee and let's get started.

Music has been a prominent mention on the show countless of times and I am going to list out my favourite songs that have been played on the show. Enjoy!

Note: I noticed when I wrote this list that most of the songs are from the 1st Season. A couple of years ago, I wanted to collect all the songs that were played on the show and found this Spanish album of songs played in the first 4 seasons and the first disc are songs played in the 1st Season.

1. Yo La Tengo - Our Little Corner of the World

This song appears in the Season 1 Episode 21 (Love, Daisies and Troubadours) right at the end of the episode when Lorelai searches for Rory to tell her about her proposal from Max. When she sees her on the street, they both smile and runs towards each other. I really like this song because it makes me want to have my own little world to for me like how Lorelai and Rory's corner of the world is Stars Hollow.

2. Altered Images - Happy Birthday

This song appears in Season 1 Episode 6 (Rory's Birthday Parties). It's only played for a small moment when Rory and Lane go to Luke's and Luke makes a birthday table for her. Then Dean comes in orders a coffee and walks out of the dinner, looks and Rory and says Happy Birthday.

3. XTC - The Man Who Murdered Love

This song is played in Season 1, Episode 2 (The Lorelai's First Day at Chilton) when Lorelai paints Rory's toenails when Lane produces XTC's newest album and both Lorelai and Lane rush inside to play (Video here)

4. Elvis Costello - This is Hell

This song is played in Season 2, Episode 5 (Nick & Nora/ Sid & Nancy) This is the episode introducing Jess, Luke's Nephew, and he walks out of the Dinner and looks around, while the song is playing. I enjoy listening to this song especially when I am feeling miserable or frustrated, it just brings my mood back.

5. Joey Ramone - What A Wonderful World

This song is played in Season 2 Episode 15 (Lost and Found) "Maybe we can hold hands and skip afterwards" Luke starts looking for an apartment because Jess has filled up most of the apartment with his stuff. At the end of the episode, he's had enough and buys the building next to his and swings a mallet to the wall. (Link to video here)

6. The La's - There She Goes

This song is the first song played in the Pilot episode when Lorelai is walking in the streets of Stars Hollow on her way to Luke's Dinner.

7. The Shins - Know Your Onion

Thi song is played in Season 2 Episode 7 (Like Mother, Like Daughter) when Rory is eating her lunch at Chilton on her own, listening to her music and reading her book. Which starts the episode with Headmaster Charleston about socialising with Chilton students.

8. PJ Harvey - One Line

This song is played in Season 1 Episode 21 (Love, Daisies and Troubadours) when Dean shows up at Chilton and Rory confesses that she loves him and they kiss.

9. XTC - There She Appeared

This song is played in Season 3 Episode 8 (Let The Games Begin) when Jess and Rory have their first official a couple kiss. (Video here)

10. David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World

This song is played in Season 3 Episode 9 (A Deep Fried Thanksgiving) when Lane and Dave have their first kiss behind Kim's Antiques. (Video Here)

11. Belle & Sebastian - Legal Man

This song is played in Season 2 Episode 14 (It Should've been Lorelai) when Rory, Kirk and Micheal do the CD drop-off into Lane's bag. Kirk distracts, Micheal runs by and puts the CD in the bag. Then Micheal gets angry at Rory because of the time chance and Lorelai didn't tell him.

12. Ramones - I Want To Be Sedated

This song is played in Season 3 Episode 3 (Application Anxiety) when Lane puts an ad out in wanting to join a band and she argues with them about which rock band is better.

13. XTC - Earn Enough For Us

This song is played in Season 1 Episode 12 (Double Date) when Lorelai and Rory get up in the morning (Link to video)

14. Grant-Lee Phillips - Heavenly

This song is played in Season 1 Episode 15 & 16 (Christopher Returns & Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers) I couldn't find the song on Youtube but you can find it on Spotify.

15. Carole King - Where You Lead

The THEME SONG, you cannot mention in a Gilmore Playlist without the theme song itself.

And that concludes the end of Day 1 of Gilmore Girls Week. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. One of the reasons why I am obsessed with Gilmore Girls is the music on the show, I like the variety and styles of music on the show, and it always fun to find something new music wises as well as bookwise.

Also what music do you like from Gilmore Girls, leave a lovely comment.

Hope you are having a lovely day

See You Soon

  1. I can't wait for the new episodes (series?) to come out. Great idea for a blog post. Looking forward to seeing what other Gilmore themed posts you have in store.
